Letter Sounds Matching Game
Use this phonological awareness resource as a center activity, with your reading intervention group, or as a whole class activity (see below) to practice applying letter-sound correspondence. In this activity, students will identify the letter sound and find the matching letter to fill the parking lot.

Scavenger Hunt
Hide the letter cards around the room when your students are not around and put the picture card in the center of the room. Then set your students loose! As soon as they find a piece, they bring it up to the picture card, identify the matching word, and put it on the picture. NOTE: You may want to make a rule of only 1 student at a card at one time. If not, things could get a little crazy.
Knock Off
Have your students stand up and make a line across the room facing the game board projected onto a screen. Use our Random Name Picker widget to draw a student’s name and point to a picture on the board. If the student correctly identifies the beginning letter and its sound, they tap the person on their left or right to send them back to their seat. If the student answers incorrectly, they must sit out. Play continues until only 1 student is standing.
Brain Buster
As a small group or class, challenge your students to think of as many words as they can for each letter of the alphabet for categories like:
- Animals
- Places
- Foods
- Common objects
