Letter Writing Prompts to Engage Young Writers
Letter writing is an essential life skill that helps students develop clear and engaging communication.
This set of 20 letter writing prompt worksheets provides guidance for younger students as they learn to express their thoughts in a letter format. Each worksheet features a child-friendly prompt, a reminder of the features that need to be included in any letter (heading, greeting, body, closing and signature) and ruled lines for writing.
Some of the letter prompts included in this set include:
- Write a letter to a babysitter. Tell them what games you’d like to play.
- Write a letter to a sports coach. Thank them for their hard work and dedication.
- Write a letter of apology to a sibling. Tell them why you are sorry.
- Write a letter to your teacher. Tell them what you like about being in their class.
- Write a letter to a magical creature. Ask them questions about their magic.
A blank lined page is also included in the resource should students need more than one page for their letters.
Use these letter writing prompts to make your writing lessons more interactive and meaningful by reinforcing letter structure through age-appropriate topics.
