Grab and Go Compound Noun Activities!

Are you on the hunt for new, no-prep teaching resources to help you teach your students about compound words? If so, you’re in the right place! The Teach Starter team has been hard at work creating new literacy activities, worksheets, and games for your students to use when learning about combining words.

Let’s get you up to speed on compound words. A compound word combines two or more words to make a new word or phrase with a new meaning. There are three kinds: open, closed, and hyphenated. Open ones are like “living room,” closed ones are like “doghouse,” and hyphenated ones are like “mother-in-law.” Learning to navigate this web of words is essential for students to use these words correctly and build higher-level vocabulary skills.
