Measure items to the nearest centimetre and millimetre with this set of 20 task cards.
📏 Practise Measuring to the Nearest Centimetre and Millimetre
Measuring to the nearest centimetre and millimetre can be challenging for some students. This set of 20 task cards will allow your students to practise reading rulers and measuring items of different lengths.
To complete this activity, cut out the task cards and place them around the room for an engaging gallery walk. Students can walk around and solve each task card by writing the answer on their recording sheet.
Through this activity, students will show they can measure items to the nearest centimetre and millimetre.
Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding
A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your maths lessons.
In addition to individual student work time, use this measuring length activity to enhance learning through guided maths groups, whole class lessons, or remote learning assignments.
If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:
🆘 Support Struggling Students
Help students who need help understanding the concepts by pointing out the nearest inch on the ruler first. Teachers can then encourage the students to move their pencil tips along the cm/mm increments until they reach the end of the object. Additionally, provide access to previous assignments, posters, and anchor charts for students to recall past lessons.
➕ Challenge Fast Finishers
For students who need a bit of a challenge, provide them with a physical ruler and encourage them to measure items around the room. Students can record their results on the back of their recording sheet.
