What Are Medial L Words?
Medial L words refer to words where the letter ‘L’ appears in the middle or medial position of the word. Examples of medial L words include ‘collar,’pillow,’ salty,’ holly,’ colour,’ etc.
In your years as a teacher, chances are you have had a student or students who struggle with pronouncing words with medial L, and those students most likely attend some sort of speech therapy to help them develop the ability to articulate Medial L. Send the lists home so your students can work with parents or guardians to read and practise the correct articulation of each medial L Word.
👂Listen for L Medial Words
Read out words from the list and other words of your choice and have your students listen for the Medial L sound. Have them indicate whether they hear the sound in the word. This enables the teacher to identify the students needing additional support with the concept.
🏴☠️ Medial L Word Scavenger Hunt
Use the Medial L word cards and another set of our illustrated word cards to create a scavenger hunt where students search for objects or pictures around the room that contain Medial L words. They can say the word aloud when they find it.
