The Amazing Magic E Can Transform Short Vowels Into Long Vowels!
Use this educational poster during your phonics lessons to introduce the ‘magic e’ – also referred to as a split long vowel digraph – to your students.
The students will learn that when the magic e appears at the end of the word, it is silent. It uses its magic to change the short vowel sound in the middle of the word to a long vowel sound. Then it makes a new word!
The example words used on the poster are:
- kit – kite
- can – cane
- pet – Pete
- glob – globe
- cub – cube
Once you have reviewed the content of the poster, why not challenge your students to brainstorm other words that follow the magic e rule?
You could also challenge students to write sentences including at least one of the magic e words displayed on the poster.
How to Make the Most of Your Magic E Poster
In addition to the full-colour poster version of this resource, a black-and-white worksheet version has also been provided.
This allows students to consolidate what they have learned about the magic e by filling in the blank spaces at the end of each word.
