Mixture or Solution Worksheet

Do your students know the difference between a mixture and a solution? As your students are exploring different types of matter, it is important to understand the difference between them. Let’s take a quick look at how they are different.

  • A mixture has 2 or more substances that have been put together but are not chemically combined.
  • A solution has 2 or more substances that have been chemically combined and can not be separated.

With this cut-and-paste science worksheet, students must look at written examples and pictures and sort them according to whether they are a mixture or a solution. This worksheet gives students 12 examples to sort.

An answer key is included with your download to make grading fast and easy!

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

  • Whole-class review (via smartboard)

If there are students who need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to write a written description of each picture example.

For students who need guidance, invite them to reference previous assignments, anchor charts, or posters. This activity can also be completed in a small group or with a peer tutor.
