With just two real-world word problems per page, students have plenty of space to think, draw and show their work. Each problem includes a variety of activities to support comprehension and multiple representations of maths thinking. Answer keys are included for easy checking or guided instruction.

Each problem in these modeling addition worksheets includes four parts:

  • A real-world addition word problem
  • A multiple-choice question asking students to identify the correct number sentence
  • Space for students to model the problem by drawing a picture
  • A multiple-choice question asking for the correct answer to the problem

Using Our Addition Word Problem Worksheets

  • Independent Practice – Use these worksheets to provide students with essential practice after a lesson on modelling addition.
  • Formative Assessment – Ask students to complete one of the problems or worksheets to gauge their understanding of 1-digit addition.
  • Maths Stations – Place copies of individual problems in your maths stations to let students show off their mathematical modelling skills during rotations.
