🌙 Phases of the Moon Activity Book

Are your students asking questions such as, ‘Why does the moon change shape?’ or ‘Why can’t I see the moon tonight?’ If so, this might be a great time to introduce the concept of moon phases to your students.

The moon undergoes a series of changes as it orbits around Earth. Sometimes the moon appears to be a full circle, otherwise known as a Full Moon. At different times, the moon may not be visible at all, commonly referred to as a New Moon.

Teach Starter has created a mini-book for you to use with your students when introducing the different phases of the moon. Through this activity, students will learn about patterns and the observable appearance of the moon over time.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your science lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use this moon phases mini-book to enhance learning through guided science groups, whole class lessons, or remote learning assignments.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

For students who need additional support, invite them to reference previous assignments, posters or anchor charts. Additionally, this activity can be completed in a one-on-one setting or with a small group.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

Challenge students to complete the last page without looking back at previous pages in the book for reference.
