A Mini-Book All About the Magic E!

Ride, bike, bake, cake, flute, bone, these, game, name, Eve, hole… What do these words have in common? They all contain a magic e, of course!

This literacy resource has been designed to familiarise your students with the magic e, which can change short vowel sounds into long vowel sounds. The students will learn that when the magic e appears at the end of the word, it is silent. It uses its magic to change the short vowel sound in the middle of the word to a long vowel sound. Then it makes a new word! What a clever little letter it is!

How to Create This Magic E Mini Book

This resource contains five pages. Once cut in half, this creates 10 mini book pages. Follow the instructions below to create magic e mini-books that your students will love!

  1. Print out the resource. Cut each page along the dotted line.
  2. Staple the pages along the left-side margin to create a booklet.
  3. Distribute to the students.
  4. On each page, the students are required to: read the sentence, trace the sentence, rewrite the sentence on the lines provided, and colour the picture.
  5. There is a blank page at the end of the booklet for students to create their own sentences and draw their own matching pictures.
