A Text Features Scavenger Hunt in Flipbook Form

When it comes to informational text features, there is a lot for our students to remember! If you’re keen to get your students exploring informational texts using an activity that will engage and motivate them, then look no further than Teach Starter’s informational text features scavenger hunt flipbook!

This set of three text features flipbooks has been created by our expert teacher team to support you in teaching your students about informational text features using an engaging, student-driven activity. The flipbooks require the students to define each text feature, then find a real-life example to list next to the definition. The features included in each flipbook are outlined below:

Choose the flipbook that best aligns with your lesson focus, or work through them all over a series of lessons. Be sure that your students have access to plenty of high-quality, age-appropriate non-fiction texts in order to complete this activity.

Easily Create These Flipbooks for Your Students 

Creating these text features scavenger hunt flipbooks takes a small amount of preparation, but it is well worth the effort! Follow the simple steps below to create this informational text features resource:

  1. Cut page 1 on the thick black line around the edge. 
  2. Cut the horizontal dotted lines to create flaps. 
  3. Cut out page 2 of your flipbook. 
  4. Stack page 1 on page 2 and glue where marked. 
  5. Repeat for each flipbook. 
  6. Distribute to the students.

Following instructions is a valuable life skill in itself, so why not have your students create their own flipbooks by following these instructions? You might just need to have a couple of extra copies on standby in case there are any unexpected scissor accidents!
