Improve your students’ understanding of science vocabulary terms that relate to objects in the sky with this 'Write the Room’ activity.

Space Science Vocabulary

As students begin dividing into various science topics, it is important that they have a solid understanding of the vocabulary terms associated with the topic. One topic that students will begin to explore is observing, describing and illustrating different objects that are associated with and appear in the sky.

Teach Starter has created a ready-to-go activity to help your young learners explore different vocabulary terms associated with this space science topic. Students will practice identifying and writing vocabulary terms such as:

  • planet
  • sun
  • moon
  • stars
  • clouds

And more!

This downloadable resource includes two different types of cards you can use in your classroom. One set has words printed on them to help students with the spelling of each word. The other set has just the picture to encourage students to identify and write each science term.

To complete this activity:

  1. Place the cards around the room for students to find.
  2. Provide each student with a recording page and a clipboard.
  3. Students move around the room to find task cards.
  4. When students find cards that match the picture on their response sheet, they write down the corresponding word.

Through this activity, students will practice identifying and writing vocabulary terms associated with objects in the sky.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

If there are students in need of additional support, encourage them to complete the activity with a partner.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students looking for an additional challenge, encourage them to create and write sentences for 5 of the words.
