Discover Properties of Matter With Science Investigations!

Engaging students in hands-on science investigations is one of the most effective ways to teach the properties of matter. When students can touch, observe, and experiment with different materials, they more easily understand key concepts like texture, shape, mass, and state of matter. This year, we’re excited to help you teach your students to be matter detectives with brand-new science investigation activities from Teach Starter!

Introducing Properties of Matter Science Lab Activity

This printable resource contains the instructions and resources needed for your students to investigate basic properties of matter, including.

  • Temperature
  • Flexibility
  • State of Matter
  • Texture

In this activity, students will investigate the physical properties of different types of matter by identifying the texture, flexibility, temperature, and state of a variety of objects collected by the teacher. Using scientific vocabulary, they will investigate and note the different properties of objects and discuss their findings. This resource includes an instruction sheet, a materials list, and a printable graphic organiser for students to record their observations.
