Identify and sort 2- and 3-digit numbers into odd and even categories.

Make Learning Numbers An Odds & Evens Game

Reinforce your number lessons with our odd and even numbers sorting activity! Through this game, students will practise odd or even number identification strategies as well as strengthen their algebraic thinking skills needed for future mathematical operations like multiplication and division.

Scaffolding + Extension Tips

Support students who need help understanding the concepts by using fewer cards, beginning with the smaller digit numbers and increasing in difficulty.

Students can also count out each number with manipulatives and pair them in twos. If there aren’t any leftover manipulatives, the number is even; if there are it’s odd. Students can also divide the numbers by 2 to determine if the number is even or odd.

Challenge fast finishers who already understand the concept by giving them larger numbers to identify as even or odd. Students can choose an even number and an odd number to provide an explanation for how to identify the number.

Use These Cards For More Odd & Even Number Activities

We created this resource for your math center as an independent practice activity. We also suggest using it to reinforce your guided math groups and full-class lessons in the following ways:

👉 Knock Off

Have your students stand up and make a line across the room. Project a card on the screen and use our Random Name Picker widget to draw a student’s name to identify it as odd or even. If they are correct, they tap the person to their left or right to send them back to their seat. If the student answers the card incorrectly, they must sit out. Play continues until only one student is standing.

🏃 Relay Race

Divide students into two team lines and show a flashcard to the students at the front of each line. The first student who correctly identifies the number as odd or even wins the flashcard. The team with the most flashcards at the end of the game wins!

❓Odd Man Out

Place 3 cards at each station, making sure 2 of the cards are either odd or even, and the 3rd card is different. Student pairs will rotate through each station and identify the matching pair, writing their answers on a separate sheet of paper.

Easily Prepare This Resource for Your Students

Print on thick card for added durability and longevity. Place all pieces in a folder or large envelope for easy access.
