Practise determining if groups of objects or sums are odd or even using this set of task cards.
Is it Odd or Even? Task Cards for the Classroom
Use this set of task cards after you have introduced odd and even number properties to your students to allow them to consolidate their knowledge. This collection of odd and even task cards includes the following scenarios:
- Asking if a group of objects is odd or even.
- Asking if dots on a tens frame show an odd number or even number.
- Asking if the answer to a sum is odd or even.
This variety of questions allows teachers to differentiate depending on the skills of the students in their class. You may only show them the first two examples in the task cards. Alternatively, for those students who need a little extra – you can provide them with all three styles.
Odd or Even Properties
Teaching kids about odd and even numbers can be more engaging by introducing them to the characteristics of these types of numbers. Here are some characteristics that kids can learn about odd and even numbers.
- Counting by Twos. Even numbers can be easily counted by twos.
- Odd + Odd = Even. When you add two numbers together, the sum is always even.
- Even + Even = Even. Adding two numbers together always results in an even number.
- Odd + Even = Odd. The sum of an odd number and an even number is always an odd number.
- Even + 1 = Odd. Adding 1 to an even number always gives an odd number.
- Odd + 1 = Even. Adding 1 to an odd number results in an even number.
- Pattern recognition in odd and even numbers. Encourage kids to look for patterns in sequences of numbers.
- Visualising Even Pairs. Help kids understand even numbers by grouping objects by pairs.
