Sorting Odd and Even Results

Use this sorting activity for students to practise their understanding of odd and even numbers and their properties by determining if the result of a particular sum will be odd or even. This resource includes two sorting mats for if the result of a sum will be odd or even, as well as several different addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division sums on them.

When introducing these properties, use our Odd and Even Properties Poster Set and refer to this when students sort these cards.

Tips for Using This Sorting Activity in the Classroom

This activity is best used in small groups to allow students to have rich conversations about the properties of odd and even numbers with their peers. Once you’ve printed the activity out, decide how many of the sorting cards you will include in the activity. For example, if you’ve only focused on addition with your students, you may just include those cards to get sorted.

If you have students who have sorted this activity quickly, you may like to provide them with this Odd and Even Properties Mystery Escape Project to work on.
