This task card set is easy to prepare and can be used in stations, guided groups, or as a “scoot” or independent practise activity. Print the cards on cardboard and laminate to use them again and again!

How to Teach Children Ordering Numbers

There are many ways to teach young mathematicians to put numbers in order. Here are a few fun ideas you can try in your classroom:

  • Counting Songs and Rhymes: Singing songs and rhymes with young students helps them to internalise the correct order of numbers.
  • Number Line: Ask students to place numbers on a large number line so they can see the relationship between numbers.
  • Place Value Chart: As numbers increase, putting numbers in a place value chart makes it easier to compare numbers digit by digit.
  • Matching Activities: Students can match numerals to quantities to easily compare the amounts and then order numbers correctly.
  • Number Books: Integrate books that feature numbers into your maths lessons for an engaging reminder of number order.
