Make origami animals with your students with printable step-by-step instructions plus a 2D shapes worksheet for your maths lesson planning.
Easy Origami Animals Step-By-Step Instructions
Bring the fun of origami animals into your lesson planning for maths class with a fun teacher-created activity about 2D shapes. This elementary teaching resource includes step-by-step instructions for you, the teacher, to show your students how to make an origami pig, origami dog and origami koala. The easy-to-follow instruction sheets can also be printed out and handed out to your students to follow along individually as they fold the faces of each of the three animals.
But folding paper to create three-dimensional objects is just the start of this fun activity! Next, it’s time to dive into some important concepts of geometry.
There are also three worksheets included in this resource download — one for each of the three animals — with space provided on each for students to describe the geometric shapes they spotted while creating their creatures. Students will then list the different 2D shapes they can identify in the faces of their new paper pets including squares, rectangles and triangles.
Teach Starter Teacher Tip: Encourage students to unfold their origami animals to see if they can identify more shapes than just those they can see on the animal faces.

Hey Elizabeth, thank you for sharing your lovely feedback with us. We will make more of these in the near future. You can also move it forward sooner by making a request of which ones you would like to see be created.
