Play this parallel perpendicular lines activity with your students to give them practice identifying line types in a variety of settings.
A Parallel Perpendicular Lines Activity Your Students Won’t Get ‘Board’ Of!
Introduce a fun and interactive way to learn about parallel, perpendicular and intersecting lines with this board game! Our parallel perpendicular lines activity offers a variety of question formats, including true/false, multiple choice and free-answer questions. Students will have the opportunity to identify pairs of lines on both 2D and 3D shapes, as well as recognise parallel, perpendicular and intersecting lines in real-world scenarios. Perfect for reinforcing geometry concepts in a hands-on and engaging way, this resource is ideal for both classroom settings and home learning.
Included in this parallel perpendicular lines activity:
- Game board
- 36 question cards
- Number cube template
- Game pieces
- Recording sheet
- Answer key
This board game works especially well as a maths station or guided practice activity. We recommend printing this parallel perpendicular lines activity on cardboard and then laminating the pieces for longevity.
Preparing and Playing Our Parallel and Perpendicular Lines Activity
This parallel and perpendicular lines activity is easy to play! Here are the steps to get your students learning:
- Print the resource and cut out the game cards and any other pieces you may need.
- Give each group a game board, a set of game cards and a number cube.
- Have each player select a game piece and place it at the starting line. The person with the shortest first name goes first.
- Player 1 rolls the die and moves forward the appropriate number of spaces.
- Players should follow any directions on the space they land on. If a player lands on a space that has a picture, they draw a card and answer the question. The next player in line should check the answer key to see if the answer is correct.
- If the player is correct, they may stay in their space. If the player is incorrect, they must return to their previous space.
- The first player to the finish line wins!
