A bill in the Australian Parliament is a proposal to make a new law or change an existing one. If the Parliament passes a bill, the bill becomes law. It also becomes known as an
‘Act of Parliament.’ Bills are created to address critical issues facing the Australian community.
Use this worksheet when studying the path of a bill during your Civics and Citizenship lessons. Students must use sentence starters to describe the seven steps a bill must go through to become law. The sentence starters are:
