Personal Pronouns Worksheets for the Early Years

Personal pronouns, such as ‘he’, ‘she’ and ‘they’, are words used to replace nouns and refer to people or things. They help sentences flow smoothly and avoid repetition.

These personal pronouns worksheets have been designed by the Teach Starter team to give your students practice identifying and using some of the most commonly used personal pronouns. Designed for Year 1 and 2 students, this pack includes eight unique worksheets for personal pronouns to help your students explore and master this key grammar concept.

Inside this personal pronouns worksheet pack, you will find the following activities:

  1. Pronoun Match-Up – Match the personal pronouns to the correct sentence. Two different versions of this activity are provided.
  2. Circle the Pronoun – Choose the correct personal pronoun that matches the image from the three pronoun choices provided.
  3. Colour-Code the Pronouns – Colour the personal pronouns in the table green and the non-pronouns in the table red.
  4. Pronoun or Not? – Read the sentences and colour the underlined word green if it is a personal pronoun or red if it isn’t.
  5. Find the Pronoun – Read the sentences and circle the personal pronouns in each sentence.
  6. Write a Sentence – Write a sentence for each personal pronoun listed. Two different versions of this activity are provided.

These personal pronouns worksheets download as an easy-print PDF or an editable Google Slides file. Answers are included in both file options.

Multiple Uses for These Pronouns Worksheets

This set of personal pronouns worksheets can be used in multiple ways during your grammar lessons. Here are a few suggestions from our teacher team:

  • Group Rotations – Use the pronoun activity sheets for small group rotations. Place a few copies of each worksheet at different stations around the room. The worksheets can be placed inside reusable sleeves so they can be wiped clean after each new group arrives
  • Independent Practice – Compile the worksheets into a pack and allow students to work through them at their own pace during your grammar lessons on personal pronouns.
  • Assessment Tool – These worksheets on pronouns offer multiple options for assessing your students’ knowledge. Choose the worksheet that best suits the needs of your class, or provide different worksheets to different students, depending on their learning needs.
