Authentic Persuasive Letter Examples for Your Students

Persuasive letters are letters written to convince someone to think, feel or act a certain way. They are written with a clear opinion and strong reasons to support it. Persuasive letters are powerful because they can inspire change, share important ideas and express what matters to the author.

To help your students master the art of composing the perfect persuasive letter, our team has created this persuasive letter example pack. This resource includes five age-appropriate sample letters that clearly demonstrate the key parts of a persuasive letter. With both labelled and unlabelled versions, students can study a completed model or actively identify and label each section themselves.

The key parts of a letter featured in this persuasive letter example pack are:

  • Heading
  • Date
  • Greeting
  • Opening Statement
  • Reasons
  • Closing
  • Signature

This persuasive letter example pack downloads as an easy-print PDF or an editable Google Slides digital document. It is the perfect resource to help students build confidence in writing persuasive letters while also learning proper formatting.

Using This Example Persuasive Letter Pack in Your Lessons

These example persuasive letters can be used in various ways during your unit on letter writing. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

  1. Opposite Argument – Have students choose one of the example persuasive letters from the pack, then rewrite the letter from the opposing side of the argument. This challenges students to think critically about how to best present a strong viewpoint.
  2. Right of Reply – Have students choose one of the example persuasive letters from the pack, then assume the persona of the recipient to write a reply. Students can demonstrate their understanding of persuasive letter structure through this activity.
  3. Topic of Choice – Using the persuasive letters in the pack as a guide, have students write a persuasive letter on a topic of their choice. They should be sure to include all the key elements as outlined in the example letters.
