Whole Number Place Value Chart Ideas

Displaying this poster is an obvious choice, but a place-value poster set like this one has many other uses in the classroom as well! Here are a few ideas of how students can use a personal copy:

  • Number Talks: Students can reference the poster as they break a given number into its place values in a chat with a partner.
  • Building Place Values: Ask students to build a number with MAB blocks, using the poster as a reference to help them remember which pieces to use.
  • Comparing and Ordering: This chart is a wonderful reference as students learn to compare and order large numbers.
  • Expanded Form Activities: This chart is a great tool for students who are unsure how to represent a digit when writing a number in expanded form.
