Dive Into the Discovery of Plants and Animals

Are you getting ready to dive into your lessons on living and nonliving things? You’re in the right place! The Teach Starter team has been hard at work creating new lessons, resources, and tools for you to introduce your little learners to things that crawl, fly, walk, and swim! We’ve put together the perfect resource to introduce your students to some new furry, feathery, and scaly friends with our brand flashcards.

This resource includes a total of 32 full-color flashcards. 24 cards feature animals, and 8 cards feature plants.

Ways to Use Your Plant and Animal Flashcards

  • Sorting Game: Have students sort the cards into two groups: plants and animals. This reinforces their understanding of the differences between living organisms.
  • Habitat Sorting: Ask students to sort the animals into different habitats (forest, ocean, desert, etc.) and do the same with plants.
  • What Do They Need?: Place the animal and plant cards on a board and ask students to match them with cards representing what they need to survive (e.g., sunlight, water, food).
  • Memory Match Game: Print two sets of flashcards. Have students lay the cards face down and play a memory game where they match pairs of plants or animals.
  • Guess the Animal/Plant: Hold a card above a student’s head (without them seeing it) and have them ask yes/no questions to figure out what animal or plant they are.
