A Dinosaur-Themed Resource for Position Words

As all early years teachers know, children love dinosaurs! Here at Teach Starter, we’ve used this knowledge to our advantage by featuring a cute (and friendly!) dinosaur in this set of position words worksheets.

This resource features our dinosaur friend positioned in relation to various objects. Students will learn and practise position words as they name and describe the spatial relationships that are visually represented throughout the resource.

This set of position words worksheets includes three different levels to help you cater for students of varying ability levels.

  • Level 1 – Student answer choices are pictures only.
  • Level 2 – Student answer choices are pictures and words.
  • Level 3 – Student answer choices are words only.

A star system has been used to help you differentiate between the versions. The lower the number of stars, the less challenging the worksheet.

This position words worksheet pack downloads as an easy-print PDF or an editable Google Slides file. Answers are included in both file options.

Whether students are just beginning to recognise spatial relationships or are ready to work with written descriptions, this set provides a scaffolded approach to mastering positional language.

Engage Students with This Position Words Worksheet Pack

This position words worksheet pack has been designed to engage students in multiple ways, making learning both fun and meaningful.

  1. Dinosaur Theme – Young learners are naturally drawn to dinosaurs, making this theme an exciting way to introduce position words. The familiar and high-interest context encourages curiosity and enthusiasm, helping students stay focused and motivated.
  2. Differentiated Levels The three levels of worksheets ensure that all students can participate at their own skill level. This scaffolded approach keeps students engaged by providing the right level of challenge while building their confidence.
  3. Hands-On Learning Opportunities – These worksheets can be paired with real objects, such as toy dinosaurs, to make learning more memorable. Students can physically move a dinosaur into different positions before recording their answers.
