Preposition Flashcards for Your Grammar Lessons

Flashcards are an effective teaching tool that simplifies learning by presenting concepts in a clear and engaging way. Their visual appeal helps students easily identify and remember information, making them perfect for teaching and reinforcing new ideas.

This set of 16 preposition flashcards has been designed by our teacher team to help your students learn some of the most commonly used prepositions in the English language. Each flashcard provides a picture of the preposition accompanied by its name.

The prepositions included in this pack include: beside, near, between, behind, in front of, next to, above, below, on, under, over, around, in, through, toward, past.

These prepositions flashcards can be downloaded as a full-colour PDF or editable Google Slides file. Once printed, they can be used in a variety of activities, from whole-class lessons to small group work or independent practice.

Creative Ways to Use Prepositions Flashcards in Your Lessons

Looking for more ways to use these prepositions of place flashcards in your classroom? Here are some suggestions from our teacher team:

  1. Preposition Recognition Drill – Hold up a preposition flashcard and ask students to name the preposition. For a more interactive approach, let students take turns holding up cards for their peers to identify.
  2. Preposition Hunt – Hold up one of the flashcards. Challenge students to use the preposition on the card in a sentence based on objects in the classroom, e.g. The book is on the table. Repeat for each card.
  3. Sentence Writing Practice – Choose a preposition. Have students write different sentences based on the preposition in their workbooks. Afterwards, have the students choose one of their sentences to share with the class.
