Explore Pushes and Pulls with a Printable Book

A force is like a secret power that makes things move. It can push or pull objects. Think of it as a magical hand that can give a gentle nudge or a hearty tug to make things happen. There are many types of forces, such as magnetism, gravity, friction and buoyancy.

When it comes to exploring forces with your students, pushes and pulls are a great place to start! To help you on your journey, the expert teacher team at Teach Starter has designed this printable mini-book to help your students learn about all things pushing and pulling. Written in age-appropriate language and accompanied by clear images, this pushes and pulls mini-book contains eight A5-sized pages and explores the following concepts:

  • What is a force?
  • What is a push force?
  • What objects do I push?
  • What is a pull force?
  • What objects do I pull?

The final two pages of the mini-book provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate how well they have grasped the concepts presented. The first activity requires students to colour-code the images on the page according to whether the people are pushing or pulling the objects. The second activity requires students to draw and label one thing they can push and one thing they can pull.

This resource is available as a black-and-white PDF or an editable Google Slides file.

Your students can refer to their mini-books as a valuable source of information for the duration of your unit on pushes and pulls!
