Quotations, Quotations…Practise Made Easy

Quotations are a powerful tool in writing, helping to add interest and variety to pieces of writing. However, many students struggle with the proper use of quotations. But fear not because The Teach Starter team has found the perfect way to ensure practise makes perfect when it comes to mastering the art of using quotation marks and dialogue correctly.

One way to make practising with quotations easier and more engaging is to start with pictures! Start your students out slowly with dialogue prompts that feature pictures. Don’t worry, though. The Teach Starter team has a great way to help your students practise using quotation marks and dialogue correctly. You can gradually increase the rigour and application as they become more comfortable using them.

Dialogue Prompts Just for Kids!

This worksheet pack with quotation marks is great for students to practise writing exchanges of dialogue between characters. This set has ten fun Writing Dialogue Worksheets. Students will look at a scene or picture and write a short story with dialogue that fits the image.

Here are just a few of the different dialogue prompts your students might see…

  • Look at this scene of two old friends having coffee together. Write a paragraph or story containing dialogue to match the picture.
  • What an adorable family of deer! Write a paragraph or story containing dialogue to tell what they might be talking about as they graze.
  • and more!
