One Manipulative, Many Benefits
Base ten blocks are a fantastic tool for young mathematicians as they provide a visual way to understand foundational maths concepts. Here are several examples of what base ten blocks can do for your students:
- Build Number Sense: Using base ten blocks allows students to explore and understand the relationships between numbers.
- Understand Place Value: Base ten blocks provide concrete representations of ones, tens, hundreds and thousands, facilitating deeper understanding.
- Model Number Operations: Students can physically combine or separate blocks to model addition and subtraction problems, reinforcing this concept.
- Engage Students: The physical and interactive nature of base ten blocks makes maths more engaging and less abstract.
