Get your students active and also practising their phoneme blending skills with this fun read the room blending activity.
Blend and Move: Phoneme Blending Activity
This phoneme blending activity has been created to suit a class who needs to move! The task cards contain words that students need to blend and read, once they’ve done this they need to colour the correct image that shows this word on their recording sheet.
You’re probably wondering how this is an active activity? It’s where you put the word cards that makes this an active activity. Place them around the classroom for students to find, or get outside and hide them around a playground or around the school grounds!
Words included in this activity are:
- Simple CVC words such as tap and can.
- 3-phoneme words that contain digraphs such as shed and feet.
How to Set Up This Phoneme Activity in the Classroom
Once you’ve downloaded this activity, it is advised that you laminate or print it on thick card so that it can be used again and again. You’ll need to print multiple copies of the student recording sheet, one each for your students.
Place the words around the classroom, or stick them around an area in the school. Provide your students with the recording sheets and get them to go on a scavenger hunt to find words, blend the phonemes together to determine the word and then find the number on the task card, find that on their recording sheet and colour the correct image.
There is an answer sheet available for students to self check – you may like to do this together as a class once the students have found all the words.
