Measuring Mass – Learning to Read Triple Beam Balance Scales 

This set of worksheets has been created and designed by an experienced teacher to help with the practise of using triple beam scales to measure and read mass. Being able to measure mass is an important skill in everyday life and by understanding this students can develop a deeper understanding of mass and enhance problem-solving abilities.

In these worksheets, students are asked to read a variety of triple beam readings and add the ones, tens and hundreds together to work out the total mass shown.

What is a Triple Beam Balance Scale?

A triple beam balance is a type of scale used in classrooms to measure the mass of objects. There are three beams and each beam typically represents a different unit of measurement, for example, grams, tens of grams, and hundreds of grams. Using triple beam balance scales are seen as the most reliable to measure mass which is why they are used in the classroom.
