The Building Blocks of Reading and Writing Double Digit Numbers

A teacher has created this simple yet effective worksheet to allow students to practise identifying the standard form of double-digit numbers when provided with the expanded form. With a fun building block theme, students will be engaged with this worksheet the minute it is put in front of them.

You may allow students to use maths manipulatives to show each number as they work through the questions.

An answer sheet has been provided and can be used for self-checking.

Reading and Writing Double Digit Numbers

Here are some more ways that you can help your students read and write double-digit numbers:

  • Introduce the concept of a place value chart using the tens and ones.
  • Use visual aids like base-ten blocks or drawings to show the concept of tens and ones.
  • Read double-digit numbers aloud to the child and emphasise the place value.
  • Have students practise writing double digit numbers on paper about how the tens place is first followed by the digit in the ones place.
  • Play some place value bingo with double-digit numbers.
