Get students practising their knowledge of converting standard form numbers to expanded form with this engaging interactive activity.
2-Digit Numbers Digital Activity + Brain Breaks
This resource has been thoughtfully created by a teacher to be used in the classroom when students are learning to read and write 2-digit numbers. Understanding the terms standard form and expanded form, and understanding what they mean will be a precursor to using this activity.
Students will be asked to read and type the expanded or standard form of a combination of 2-digit numbers. Throughout the activity, there are fun little brain breaks that have been included to make this activity the perfect maths warm-up, maths small group, or even whole class activity. It’s that versatile.
More Activities to Practise Expanded and Standard Forms
- Roll two dice to create a 2-digit number. For example, if you rolled a 3 and a 5 you have 35. Students can then show this number in expanded form and standard form.
- Create a number line on the board with numbers 10-99, call out numbers in expanded form, and have students take turns to place a magnet or draw a spot on the corresponding number on the number line.
- Grab a pack of cards and get students to randomly select two cards, use the numbers to create a 2-digit number, and have students write the expanded form.
