A Number Recognition Game to Engage Your Small Groups

Are you looking for a way to help students recognise the numbers 0 to 10? This Bingo game is a fun way to ensure your foundation students can identify numbers in many forms. Students match the number you call with its equivalent on their Bingo card. Number forms include:

  • Word form
  • Tally marks
  • Base-10 blocks
  • Ten frames
  • Fingers
  • Snap cubes
  • Dominoes
  • Quantities

This resource for small groups includes six unique BINGO cards and calling cards for numbers 0 to 10.

More Number Recognition Activities

Want more small group activities to help your students recognise the numbers 0 – 10? Take a look at these fun ideas:

Number Hunt: Hide number cards around the room and ask each student to find a specific number. When they find their card, they say the number out loud while holding up the same number of fingers.

Sensory Bins: Create sensory bins with items like rice, beans, or sand and hide number cards or objects. Students dig through the bin to find the numbers and then match them to a number chart.

Number Songs and Rhymes: Sing songs and rhymes that emphasise numbers. Songs like “Five Little Ducks” or “Ten Little Monkeys” can be particularly effective, especially when finger play is added!

Small Group Instructions:

  1. Print and cut apart the game cards and calling cards.
  2. Give each student a BINGO card and some counters.
  3. Call out a number from the calling cards.
  4. Students find and mark the equivalent representation on their BINGO card.
  5. Three in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally wins.
