Decisions and Choices – Think Before You Act!

Thinking about choices is a crucial skill that extends far beyond the classroom. Let’s take a look at why it’s important for students to develop this ability.

Personal Responsibility – Students gain a sense of accountability when they understand how their choices impact their outcomes, empowering them to take ownership of their decisions and consequences.

Ethical and Moral Development – Reflecting on choices enables students to consider ethical implications, weigh the impact of their decisions on themselves and others and develop empathy, compassion and integrity.

Learning From Mistakes – Students can learn from both positive and negative consequences of their choices, which helps build resilience and adaptability.

Get Your Students to Think About Their Choices

One skill that students will develop is the ability to think about the choices that they make. This involves students thinking about the consequences or rewards that could come from a decision as well as owning their actions.Teach Starter has created a pack of printable writing prompts that will get your students thinking about times when they had to make a choice and the outcomes that came as a result. Some of the writing prompts in this pack include:

  • Think about a time you had to make a tough choice. What did you choose, and why? How did it make you feel?
  • Think about a time when you had to choose between following the crowd and doing what you knew was right. What did you choose, and how did it make you feel?
  • Write about a time when you had to choose between doing something you wanted to do and doing something responsible. What did you choose, and why?
