Explore Fractions and Decimals with a Hundredths Worksheet

When it comes to understanding new mathematical concepts, visual representations can be very helpful! Our expert teacher team has designed this simple worksheet to help your students deepen their understanding of hundredths by representing them visually on a grid. The worksheet features a grid of squares, inviting students to colour and represent hundredths. This tactile approach transforms the often-challenging realm of fractions and decimals into a concrete, memorable learning experience.

To complete the worksheet, the students choose a number between 10 and 100. Then, they colour their chosen number of squares on the grid. Underneath the grid, they record the fraction they have created in four different ways.

Let’s say the student coloured in seventy-two squares. They would record this fraction as:

  • Seventy-two out of one hundred
  • Seventy-two hundredths
  • 72/100
  • 0.72

This hundredths worksheet downloads as a printable PDF or an electronic Google Slides version.

Multiple Uses for This Hundredths Worksheet

This deceptively simple hundredths worksheet can be used in numerous ways in your primary school maths classroom. Here are just a handful of suggestions from our experienced teacher team:

  • Concept Introduction – Use the worksheet as a starting point for introducing the concept of hundredths. Project the worksheet onto your interactive whiteboard and model the different ways in which hundredths can be represented. This gives students a tangible, visual foundation upon which to base their understanding of hundredths.
  • Independent Practice – Once students are familiar with the concept of hundredths and how these can be represented as fractions and decimals, allow the students to complete the hundredths worksheet independently.
  • Formative Assessment – Once the students have completed the worksheet, use them as a formative assessment to gauge individual comprehension and tailor future lessons accordingly.
