What Are the Responsibilities of Local Governments in Australia?

Australia has three levels of government – local government, state government and federal government. Each level of government has a specific role and provides specific services to members of the Australian public.

Local governments in Australia (also known as LGAs – local government areas) sit underneath the state and federal governments. They vary in size, depending on the population. Local governments are usually run by a council that is led by a head councillor (the mayor).

This set of classroom posters describes some of the key roles and responsibilities of local governments in Australia. These are:

  • Animal Control and Regulation
  • Building Permits
  • Foot and Bike Paths
  • Garbage Collection
  • Parking Facilities
  • Public Libraries
  • Parks and Gardens
  • Roads, Bridges and Street Signs
  • Sporting Facilities.

Wondering if we could get the words printed on the first two pages of this document like the others by any chance? :) Great resource.
