Get crafty with this fun retelling stories activity where students use paper chains to create a chain for a story they have read in class.
🔗 Retelling a Story Link Activity
This fun and engaging activity is the perfect addition to your retelling stories unit that doesn’t involve a boring old worksheet! This paper chain template will have your students giving a retell with all of the essential elements and then linking it all together to create a paper chain that can be hung up in the classroom! The elements included in this paper chain template are:
- Title
- Characters
- Setting
- Beginning
- Middle
- End
- Problem
- Solution
- Feelings
- First
- Then
- Next
- Finally
- Last
- Lesson
This activity has been created with differentiation in mind. There are many different elements that are included in the template. This allows for you to pick and choose which vocabulary you want your students to use in their retell.
How to Use this Retelling Stories Activity in the Classroom
- Firstly, you’ll need to decide which language (vocabulary) you would prefer them to use and keep it consistent throughout the teaching unit.
- Once you’ve picked the vocabulary, print each page on coloured paper to make it more visually appealing once the paper chain has been put together. Alternatively, you can get your students to colour in each link once they’ve completed that part of the retell.
- When students have finished, it’s time to link up their paper chains.
