⏱️ Telling Time to the Minute – Roll and Cover Game

Rolling dice, matching pictures, and telling time—what more could you want in a fun dice game.

To play, students take turns rolling a die. When the die stops on a number, the student will read one of the clocks in that line. Place a counter or a manipulative over the clock. Continue play by taking turns and covering the clocks. Try to cover as many clocks as you can!

Through this activity, students will show they can read analog clocks to the nearest minute.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your maths lessons.

In addition to partner work time, use this time to the minute game to enhance learning through guided maths groups, fast finishers, or at-home learning.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Assist students who need help understanding the concepts by using our Interactive Teaching Clock widget to make matching clock faces that appear in the game. Students can use the ‘Show Digital’ button to check if their answers are correct.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For fast finishers, students can practise writing each time in word form or determining the elapsed time between the first and last clock of each line.
