Our Rounding Games for 4th Graders Bring the Fun!

Teach Starter has created many rounding games for 4th graders to help your students strengthen their understanding of rounding whole numbers. ‘Race Up the Rounding Ladder’ aligns well with standards in both 3rd and 4th year. This differentiated resource includes two levels of difficulty, ensuring that students get practice rounding different-sized numbers to a variety of place values.

This teacher-created resource includes:

  • Detailed instructions
  • Colour game board
  • Low-colour game board
  • 30 Level 1 number cards
  • 30 Level 2 number cards
  • Recording sheet
  • Answer keys

This and our other rounding games for 4th graders work wonderfully for maths stations, guided learning activities, and indoor recess fun. We recommend you laminate the game board and cards for longevity and print on cardboard so students cannot see through the cards.

Playing Our Rounding Numbers Game

Ready to get your students rounding? Here is how to play this engaging rounding numbers game.

  1. Download and print a copy of the game board, recording sheet and the number cards you choose to use. The set marked with one star in the corner features smaller numbers than the set with two stars.
  2. Students choose a counter and then shuffle the cards and place them in a face-down pile.
  3. Taking turns, students draw a card and must round the number shown to the place value indicated on the top.
  4. Students write their answer and whether they rounded the number up or down on their recording sheet.
  5. If they round the number up, they move their counter up their ladder on their game board. If they round the number down, they move the counter down their ladder.
  6. The student who reaches the top of their ladder on their game board first is the winner!

More comprehensive instructions on how to play the game are included in the resource.
