Safe and Unsafe Scenarios for Daily Discussions!

Teaching our students the basics of keeping safe and what to do if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable is crucial to your social-emotional lesson planning.

Each card has a scenario, and the children are then asked: ‘I this safe or unsafe?’ These scenario cards can be used in a variety of ways, including the following:

  • Use in a small group and have students pick a card and then discuss why they think the scenario is safe or unsafe.
  • As a whole class, the teacher reads out the scenario, then students either put thumbs up for safe or thumbs down for unsafe and then hold a discussion.
  • Daily morning activity. Write the scenario on the board and have students write their response and why they feel that way.
  • As a small group, sort the cards into safe and unsafe piles and then write down what they would do in each unsafe scenarios.
