Said is Dead! What Will We Say Instead?

Just kidding…Said is definitely not dead, but sometimes there are better ways to say it. If you’ve been in the classroom for more than a minute, you know that ‘said’ is one of the most overused words in student writing, so this year, let’s encourage kids to branch out and try new variations and antonyms for the word ‘said’.

This printable ‘Said is Dead’ Dialogue Tag list is a fun and easy way to introduce your students to a variety of new ways to say the word ‘said’. This resource features a printable antonym chart containing more than twenty words that students can use instead of ‘said’ in their writing.

Bring out this resource around Halloween, and you’ve got the perfect spooky lesson on antonyms and dialogue tags. You can print and display the antonym chart for students or make copies and have them add the resource to their writing journals as a reference guide.
