☀️ ⛅️ ☔️ Step into Seasonal Changes with your Students! ☀️ ⛅️ ☔️
If you’re looking at seasonal changes with your Grade Ones, this resource is the perfect starting point to help them build field knowledge and grow their vocabulary. This eight-page digital download is available in Google Slides and PDF formats, and includes 28 word cards with definitions.
This resource also includes a cover page with instructions.
When teaching students about seasonal changes in the environment and exploring how these changes affect everyday life, we look at some specific themes:
- Making and recording observations of phenomena such as seasonal changes to plants such as colour or dropping of leaves, and growth of flowers or fruit,
- Noticing how daily weather indicators and seasonal patterns help us to make plans for activities in our daily lives, and
- Exploring how people make clothing choices using predictions of weather or knowledge of seasonal changes.
Using This Seasonal Changes Word Bank in Your Classroom
Get creative with your uses! Here are some ways our teacher team suggest using this resource:
The obvious application for this teaching resource is as a visual display – create a word wall in a prominent spot in your room for students to access when they complete Science tasks relating to seasons.
You could also laminate the separate cards and use them as prompts for students to write down information they already know about the word on the card.
Print off two sets of the word cards and make a matching game, where students have to find a partner with the same card.
