Sort Clothing, Activities, and Objects With a Seasons Activity

Winter, spring, summer, autumn… Are your students learning about the characteristics of different seasons? This sorting activity can be a task for your students to complete in a small group or science station. Students will view real photographs, such as ice skating, planting gardens and raking leaves and sorting them according to the correct season.

To play, print and cut out the sorting mats and picture sorting cards. Place each picture card on one of the four seasons sorting mats.

Through this activity, students will show they can identify proper clothing choices, actions, and objects used in different seasons.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your science lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use this sorting activity to enhance learning through guided science groups or whole class lessons.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Students struggling can have the choices reduced from four seasons to two for each card.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

Fast finishers can write a story that takes place in their favourite season. The characters in the story should be participating in an appropriate seasonal activity and should be described as wearing clothing fit for the weather.

🖼️ Gallery Walk (Scoot Activity)

Hang the sorting cards around the room. Assign students or pairs to a card to start, and have them write the picture description and the season it matches on a sheet of paper. When you say, “Scoot,” students rotate through the cards until they have completed each one. Lead the class in a discussion, or divide students into groups to share the information they collected and the evidence they examined.
