Spring into Thee New Literacy Activities
Looking for a cute and fun short and long vowel sorting activity? This is the perfect resource to help your early years students master the important skill of distinguishing between a long and short vowel sound. It gives students a hands-on way to practise identifying long and short vowel sounds and writing words using them in a fun and engaging way.
While it’s spring themed – this sorting activity can really be used at any time of the year.
Long Vowel vs. Short Vowel Word Sort
To use this literacy station, students will simply sort the pictures into the correct category of long or short vowels. Once printed, provide your students with the picture cards, and the printable word work recording sheet. Students will sort the words, and record each in its correct category on the recording sheet. This activity is a great way to reinforce the concept of vowel sounds and help your students gain confidence in reading and spelling.
