Three worksheets to allow students to practise identifying the middle vowel sound of CVC words.
Short Vowel Worksheets – Medial Vowels
The cool thing about vowels is that they have two sounds—long and short. This resource has been designed to help your students practice identifying the short vowel sound located in the medial position in CVC words. Students look at a picture stimulus, then complete each word by adding in the medial vowel sound. Three separate worksheets are provided, as well as an answer key.
Scaffolding & Extension Tips
- Challenge students who already understand the concept to put the words/pictures in alphabetical order.
- Support students who need help understanding the concept by providing access to a visual reminder of letter-sound correspondences, such as an alphabet poster.
