Assign this fun fishing game to help your students practise their skip counting skills using digital technology.
Hooked on Skip Counting: Fishing Game
Are you teaching skip counting in your Grade One or Grade Two patterns and algebra lessons? Your students will love the individual challenges of catching the numbered fish and ordering them beside their fishy friends to complete the skip counting series or hiding the correct fish under a shell to demonstrate what the skip counting rule is in a given pattern!
To play, create a copy for each student and assign it on their individual device (in Creation or Edit mode). Alternatively, project on your smartboard or a shared device as a maths group activity or warm-up!
Through this activity, students will show their ability to recognise, describe and create additive patterns that increase by 10, 10 and 100!
Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding
A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your maths lessons.
In addition to individual student work time, use this activity to enhance learning through guided maths groups, whole class lessons, or home assignments.
If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners and ELL/ESL students, we have a few suggestions for keeping students on track with these concepts:
🆘 Support Struggling Students
For students who need additional support, provide visual cues like skip counting charts or a hundreds board, and first focus on two-digit numbers only.
➕ Challenge Fast Finishers
If there are students looking for a challenge, have them set a timer and race the clock to complete the tasks!
🧑🏫 Group Learning
Project the slides onto a screen and work through them as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks or mini whiteboards.
