Let’s Be Social – Stories for the Classroom

Teaching young children about the importance of using an appropriate voice volume while indoors is a lesson that should be reiterated throughout their early years of education. By teaching students to use their inside voices, we are encouraging them to be considerate of others and reduce distractions, which aids in maintaining focus on the task at hand. This approach also helps to instill respect for each other’s learning experiences and promotes mindfulness of noise levels in shared spaces. Moreover, mastering the inside voice helps students develop self-regulation skills, which are invaluable not only in academic settings but also in various social situations. It empowers them to understand the appropriate volume for different settings, contributing to their overall social and emotional intelligence.

Teach Starter has created a printable mini-book to help your students learn about using their quiet voice while at school. Each page is designed in a simple manner with real-life photographs to help students make connections and understand the examples.

The last page of the mini-book also poses a question with three picture choices for students to choose from as their answer.

Teach Your Student to Use Their Inside Voices With a Mini-Book!

Social storybooks can be incredibly beneficial in a classroom setting in several ways. Regardless of whether you are teaching students to use their inside voices or another important social skill, there are some advantages to using these books with your students.

Social Skills Development

These books often address social and emotional themes, helping students understand and navigate complex social situations, emotions and behaviours. Teachers can use these stories to discuss emotions, empathy, friendship, bullying, diversity, and more, providing a platform for valuable discussions.

Behavioural Guidance

Social stories can illustrate appropriate behaviour in various scenarios. They can be used to model positive actions and responses to conflicts or challenges, offering students a framework for handling similar situations they might encounter.

Inclusive Education

These books often showcase diverse characters and experiences, which can foster inclusivity and understanding among students. They can be a great tool for teaching acceptance, tolerance and celebrating differences.
