Sorting Unit Fraction Shape Visualisations

This set of worksheets has been created by an experienced Early Years teacher to enable students the ability to practise their knowledge of unit fractions in various shapes and numbers. This download includes two cut-and-paste worksheets with the following unit fractions:

  • Worksheet 1 – students need to cut out 12 different unit fraction representations showing the following unit fractions – thirds, fourths and fifths.
  • Worksheet 2 – students need to cut out 12 different unit fraction representations showing the following unit fractions – sixths, eighths and tenths.

The best thing about this easy to implement cut-and-paste activity is that you can either provide students with just the first worksheet, or both if they are ready for an extension.

Using Cut and Paste Worksheets in the Classroom

You may just think of them as just another worksheet to use in the classroom, but cut-and-paste worksheets offer a dynamic and interactive approach to learning that engages your students on multiple levels. One of the best things about cut-and-paste worksheets is their versatility.

By physically manipulating pieces of paper or images, students are actively participating in the learning process. They can then glue the images in the correct groups, or this can become a sorting activity that you use again and again in the classroom. This particular set of cut and paste worksheets also offers a differentiated approach with the option to provide just one or both worksheets.
