Differentiated Spelling and Maths Centre Activity – Money Maths
This no-prep maths and spelling centre activity will be an immediate hit when added to your literacy and maths rotations. Using a list of their own words, students will spell words and calculate their total values using Australian Coins.
With only a few copies, you can add this activity to your math or literacy station rotation. Print the copy of the money key and double-sided student copies of the recording sheet. Place them in a literacy or maths centre, and you are ready to go!
Differentiate Your Money Maths Spelling Activity
This Money Maths Spelling activity is a great resource that can be easily differentiated before handing it off to students. Here are a few recommendations if you’d like to differentiate for advanced or struggling students.
For advanced learners,
- Edit the Google Slides version of the document to assign a more advanced spelling list or change the coin amounts given.
- Have students start with a given amount of money and have them subtract each word’s value from the total.
- Remove coins from the editable slides version and replace them with notes.
For struggling learners,
- Have students work with partners.
- Provide a calculator for calculating the total value of each word.
- Provide a modified or simplified spelling list.
- Change the money amounts on the editable version to include smaller denominations.
